Two Years, No Fatalities for U.S. Airlines.

Perhaps the best indicator of the safety level of the U.S. air traffic system is the number of fatalities that occur each year. Everyday air traffic controllers weave airliners around each other, ensuring that they travel safely through the sky without colliding into each other. It can now officially be said that for two consecutive years U.S. airlines have been fatality free.

Thanks to previous lessons learned, today’s aircraft are better built – specifically the airframe and power-plants of aircraft. According to an interview by CNN, you have a better chance of becoming President of the United States than you do perishing in an airliner accident. The news is good, yet quite shocking, considering that over 1 billion passengers have been flown within that 2 year time-span. I think credit has to go to the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) and the country’s air traffic controllers. The NTSB investigates just about any, if not all, major aircraft accidents. Their imperative work of “finding out why” has saved countless American lives. Not only should we thank the folks at the NTSB and the folks in the control centers / towers, we also can thank the FAA, and the thousands of pilots and crews that get us to where we want to go, everyday.
