Carrying on with the latest in Southwest Airlines union contracts, the pilots of the airline will be voting on a new five-year deal. The union and the airline have endorsed the contract, now it’s up to the 5,900-some pilots to vote on it. Southwest Airlines Pilots’ Association said that they had a deal in mind two months ago, but the language of the contract need some more tweaking. The union said the proposal “includes pay increases, stronger job protection language, increased retirement benefits and scheduling improvements.”
I’ve said it in the past, and I’ll say it again. Southwest has a way with their employees; a way of respect. It doesn’t surprise me that Southwest is increasing pay, protecting job, and increasing the retirement benefits. It’s clearly obvious that they care about their employees.
To my knowledge the only thing they have left to complete are the contracts among the airline and: customer service and reservation agents. I’m sure those will be inked sooner than we know it.
