The Best Hotels in the United States For Fitness

The Best Hotels in the United States For Fitness

The thing about traveling is finding some decent hotels with great fitness centers. While it doesn’t matter much to me because I can exercise anywhere, having a nice place to work out may be important for many others. I’m going to list some to the best places in the United States where you can get a great workout in facilities that even offer state of the art equipment.

1. The Houstonian Hotel has one of the best fitness facilities anywhere. Known as The Club it boasts 125,000 square feet of training space. That includes an indoor track, rock climbing wall, and a boxing ring. You can even get facials and massages afterwards at their spa. There is so much more going than I mentioned here. Did I forget to mention the indoor pool?

2. The Venetian in Las Vegas has a 12,000 sq. ft. facility known as the Canyon Ranch SpaClub. It has nutritionists, personal trainers and a rock climbing wall that’s 40 feet high. Check it out when you visit Las Vegas.

3. The Four Seasons in San Francisco has a Sports Club/LA fitness center which is 127,000 sq. ft. in size. Some of that includes a Jr. Olympic Pool, life coaches, nutritionists, and a boxing ring. It is located in downtown San Francisco.

4. Sheraton Hotels has something for the busy traveler who loves to exercise – Core Performance fitness centers. Located at various locations wherever you find a Sheraton, Core Performance is what the name implies – focused on core and total body training. It’s quick and effective (the way I like it). They will even get you started with a “Gym-in-a-Bag” room service.

5. The Embassy Suites in Chicago offers a top notch fitness facility that includes an indoor pool. You also get a view since the hotel is located on the waterfront.

There are many hotels that have great places for fitness. Again, you don’t need a fitness center to exercise in. For many people it is convenient and offers many amenities that you don’t get when you train alone. Check them out as well as others okay? I hope offer hotels that have many outdoors activities where you can get some great exercise. That’s my cup of tea anyway. If you don’t have the money for the above hotels, then it’s okay to do training in your room. You might even want to run the stairs. It all counts.

Have fun, stay fit and healthy.…

Travel Light: How To Pack Clothes For Travel

Travel Light: How To Pack Clothes For Travel

There are times in our lives where we all deserve to have a break. Most of us would love to go to different places in order to revel in the new atmosphere and discover many amazing things. If you are going on a trip, it is important to pack only the essential stuff.

As for me, if I had the choice, I’d totally bring my whole entire house with me (no kidding!). However, since this is literally impossible to do, I have since learned how to pack only the important things. Not only will it give me an organized luggage, it will also save me money by not paying extra for excess baggage. Plus, it will also give me enough room for tons of shopping!

The number of clothes, shoes and accessories that you are going to bring will depend on the number of days that you are staying at a certain place. It’s always best to mix and match pieces so that you will have a different look for each day.

1. Choose Neutral Pieces

Neutral pieces are your outfit’s canvass. It is very easy to create different looks from them. Choose versatile nude colored items such as a top or Aa pair of pants. You can then pile on different colored accessories or layer on a bright colored garment. It is also important to bring nude colored heels and neutral colored flats. Less footwear means more space for your luggage.

2. Bring A Comfy Cardigan, Jacket, And Scarf

On days where you know that it can get cold, it is important to pack your favorite cardigan, jacket and scarf. You may even choose a blazer, if that’s your preference. Try to choose solid colored pieces that go well with your neutral tops and bottoms. On days where it can get a little chilly, these things can definitely come in handy.

3. Trendy Dress

When you are traveling, don’t forget to bring a trendy dress. Pick one that you can easily pile on different accessories. Some dresses also double up as a top especially if they are made from light material. You can tuck them inside your favorite pants and cinch with a belt.

4. Go For Denim

Remember to always bring your favorite staple denim jeans. Throw in a pair of shorts if you are visiting a tropical area.

5. Check The Weather And The Season

When you are planning to travel to another country, it is a must to check the weather. If the climate is cold, bring the warmest clothes that you have in your arsenal. If you are heading to a tropical area, pack in your favorite pair of shorts, tanks tops and other light weight clothing.

6. Bring Key Accessories

When traveling, bring only a few pieces of accessories that you can mix and match with different garments. Accessories give you that extra oomph.

Bring these tips into mind the next time you pack your clothing for a trip. Save yourself from all that hassle and only think about how you’re going to spend your vacation. You will definitely be having the time of your life!…

Seven Sights to See With the Kids This Summer

Seven Sights to See With the Kids This Summer

Summer, at least in the eyes of Austin school children, is just around the corner. Summer temperatures are already being felt and hot afternoons seem to stretch out longer in the summer. Fortunately, fun ways to entertain the whole family abound in the Austin area.

Zilker Park Hillside Theater – Pack a picnic dinner and head to the Zilker Park Hillside Theater for an evening of memorable entertainment. For over 50 years Austinites have headed to the grassy hillside above the Barton Springs Pool to bring a little culture to the warm summer nights. “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” runs through May; Ballet Under the Stars with Austin Metamorphosis Dance Ensemble is the featured show in June; and “Annie” is the summer musical in July and August. Alcohol is not allowed, but quiet dogs on leashes are welcome. Bring blankets or low chairs to enjoy the show.

Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort – What better way to beat the heat than getting soaked at Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort south of Austin in New Braunfels. The park has three different sections, with a free tram running between them. From water coasters to tube chutes to water playgrounds, there is something for every age level. The park can get pretty packed in the summer, but a discounted rate is offered after 3 p.m. to enjoy the park until the 8 p.m. closing time.

Hamilton Pool Preserve – West of Austin is an idyllic preserve of endangered species, wildflowers and a 50 foot waterfall. Hamilton Pool Preserve is where the Pedernales River meets Hamilton Creek to flow over limestone rocks. Birds, plants and other creatures are protected here by Travis County, the City of Austin, The Nature Conservancy, the Lower Colorado River Authority, and the Travis Audubon Society. Bring the family to swim in the pool, explore and picnic.

Inner Space Cavern – In 1963, a Texas Highway Department worker discovered a 10,000 year old cave system while drilling through limestone rocks in Georgetown. It is one of the best preserved prehistoric caves in Texas, complete with well preserved fossils. Inner Space Caverns offers three different types of tours, including the Adventure Tour, the Explorers Tour, or the more challenging Wild Cave Tour. With the cooler cave temperatures, it can offer a great summer afternoon escape.

Tube San Marcos River – Fed by the Aquarena Springs, the San Marcos River is a refreshing way for the family to spend a hot Texas summer afternoon. Enjoy the scenery while navigating the chutes and rapids over the Rio Vista Dam. Although there are many places to rent tubes, providing tube rentals and river taxis is a fundraiser for the San Marcos Lions Club from the City Park.

Rock’N River Water Park – The Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department runs a pool system including the Rock’N River Water Park. This affordable water park located in the Old Settlers Park offers a lazy river, water slides and a water playground. This park is particularly engaging for the younger members of the family with fun creatures sprouting water, but older siblings won’t mind getting wet here either.

Museums – Last but certainly not least, is getting out of the heat by spending summer afternoons at the number of museums Austin has to offer. From folk art to interactive children’s exhibits, Austin has something for every member of the family to enjoy.…

Missions 103 – The Journey Begins

Missions 103 – The Journey Begins

I knew nothing about leading a mission’s team. I’d never been on a mission’s trip before; only trips with our teens on camp-outs, and leading a group of grade school/middle school kids on tour with a traveling choir. Missions-out of the country travel-was a whole other story! I knew a little about the money exchange and something about the airports but those eight college students trailing behind me like ducklings was something else!

God knew that, too. He helped me prepare a devotional that I used on those first trips that took me deep into His Word. I had never led a Bible study before this time. I had gone to plenty of them at our church but had never been the leader, the researcher, the one who was supposed to know the most about the Bible. “Help me, Lord” was my cry for most of that first trip. And He did.

We used the book of James on many of those trips. All the lessons about profiting from trials, loving God under trials, qualities needed in trials. These were lessons I would never forget and the students would testify to the very same thing upon their return. Many, many lives were changed as our daily trials would uncover parts of each person that they did not know existed. I saw faith with works that put me on my knees and brought me to tears. I saw students change their whole walk with Jesus and their majors in college to follow Christ. It was and continues to be a source of joy every time I think about it.

The beginning journey with students caused adults to wanti the same experiences. Moms and Dads would see their kids’ lives changed to the point that they wanted to understand what happened. They needed to go to the field to experience that change.

Every trip had a closing day when we had to walk away from those little babies we had grown attached to for two weeks. There were many tears and many sad goodbyes. The main purpose of our evening devotions that last day was so we could unload our emotions before we went home. We needed to say what was on our hearts while we were with our team and so we did.

I had one father that came along with his wife and daughter on her second trip. He was a fire fighter from Detroit. To look at him you’d think he was a rough and tumble sort of guy but that night, everything changed. He sat in our group with tears in his eyes and said something I will never forget. “I’m a fire fighter. We save people and animals and all sorts of stuff from fires all the time. But I can’t save these kids from this kind of life.” He knew he had to leave those kids in God’s hands because his own hands could not rescue them. It was so moving to hear this.…

Major Attractions Surrounding Las Vegas – Lake Mead National Recreation Area

Major Attractions Surrounding Las Vegas – Lake Mead National Recreation Area

While some people like to take their vacations to tropical islands and big cities, others like a more open and historic destination, and Nevada offers these types of vacation spots by the dozen. Obviously, Nevada brings in a lot of tourism due to Las Vegas, but many other landmarks in the area share the spotlight, including the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

The Lake Mead National Recreation Area is a large landmark made up of two huge reservoirs and is located in southern Nevada and northwestern Arizona. The Nevada side is the Lake Mead side of the attraction, with the Arizona reservoir Lake Mohave making up the other half. Lake Mead is impossible to miss – it’s located at the Hoover Dam.

It’s really an all-in-one vacation to visit the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Not only can folks see the huge reservoir, but they also get to tour and experience the Hoover Dam. Because of the type of location and everything Lake Mead offers, nearly 8 million people make the trek there every year, making it one of the most visited sites in the United States of America, and certainly Nevada.

Lake Mead itself offers opportunity of all types for water enthusiasts, including boating, water skiing, fishing, swimming, sunbathing and more. The entire recreation area is almost one and a half million acres in size.

There’s also a lot to see and do for hikers. The red rock formations and natural landscape of southern Nevada presents a challenge for hikers and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for sightseers and photographers. However, this is still the desert, so it’s not a wise move to venture out far into the area unless you’re fully prepared with supplies.

Multiple things make the Lake Mead National Recreation Area unique, but the desert setting is probably the most intriguing aspect of this historic landmark. America doesn’t have a lot of desert land in comparison with the rest of the world. The southwestern United States is basically the only desert to be found, and three of the four American desert ecosystems are located in the area.

The area was originally called the Boulder Dam Recreation Area when it was first built. In 1947, the name was changed to the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, and Congress declared the entire area a national park system in 1964.

Although you might not think it, the ecosystem in this desert is actually extremely diverse. In total, there are over 900 species of plants, 500 species of animals, and 25 endangered animal species living within the area.

Humans have had a presence in the area for around 10,000 years, and ancient artifacts are on display and can be found all throughout the recreation area. Visitation has been on the decline in recent years, going from around 9.5 million annually in the 1990s to around 7 million annually in the 2000s.…
