How to Travel Light on Holiday

How to Travel Light on Holiday

Travellers often face the problem of excess baggage on their trip and as a result they have to pay a heavy penalty for it. There are a number of low cost airlines that offer us the cheap air options to fly to some of the exotic destinations of the world. But when it comes to excessive baggage they charge you very heavily.

The growing economic crisis and other factors have made it difficult for the airlines to offer you low cost budget flights with all the necessary facilities. The airlines try to pass on the extra charges that they incur on to their passengers. This excessive baggage is amongst one of these charges. As the luggage increases, the weight of the airplane increase and this would mean more costs on the fuel. Many airlines allow only 20 kilograms of luggage for each passenger. Some short haul flights allow even less than this.

The first thing that you should do in order to travel light is to replace all the old and bulky suitcases that are lying somewhere in your house. These suitcases weigh about 6 to 7 kilograms and thus a quarter of your allowance is gone in the suitcases. Instead buy new suitcases which are light and sturdy. They weigh about 4 kilograms and are much better than your old ones. Purchasing this lightweight luggage can be seen as some sort of investment that will go a long way in saving money. Today large number stylish and trendy suitcases are available for every taste and need.

Here are some other tips that you can follow to travel light on a holiday:

Check your luggage allowance with the airlines and make sure that you adhere to them. Even 50 grams above the prescribed limits will attract a lot of penalty. Make a point to weigh your luggage before leaving for the airport.

Try to keep in some extra space for the gifts and souvenirs that you will be taking back on your return journey.

Last but not the least, if you have any relative or any friend that is travelling with you, you can ask him whether he can carry some of your luggage with him if he is travelling light.
